Important DIY & Safety Information

The Easy Fold Murphy Bed is a DIY hardware mechanism kit. We supply the Murphy Bed hardware, cutting list and assembly instructions; we do not supply a complete, pre-assembled bed.

Because each bed is built by the customer or their chosen installer, the final operation of the bed can vary depending on the construction and setup. Factors such as the weight and thickness of the mattress, type and weight of building materials, additional accessories or finishes, panel dimensions, mounting positions and installation accuracy can all affect how heavy or light the bed feels when opening and closing.

Some adjustment may be required during or after installation to achieve the desired operation. If the bed feels unusually heavy, unusually light, does not move smoothly, or does not open or close correctly, do not force the mechanism. Check the installation and contact us for assistance if required.

Gas Strut & Mechanism Safety

The Murphy Bed mechanism uses pressurised gas struts and moving components. Correct assembly, positioning of the hardware and secure fixing of the cabinet to suitable wall framing are essential for safe operation.

Always follow the supplied assembly instructions. Do not modify the mechanism or mounting positions without understanding how the modification may affect the operation and safety of the bed.

The Murphy Bed mechanism is not intended to be operated by children. Children should be supervised around the bed and should not be allowed to open, close, climb on or play with the mechanism.

Inspection & Maintenance

Once installation is complete, we recommend regularly inspecting the bed and its hardware.

For a newly built bed, check the installation approximately every two weeks for the first three months. After this initial period, we recommend an inspection at least every six months, as well as whenever you notice any change in the way the bed operates.

Check that:

  • Wall fixings remain secure.

  • Bolts, screws and mounting plates remain tight and correctly positioned.

  • Pivot components are secure and operating correctly.

  • Gas struts and their attachment points show no signs of damage, excessive movement or unusual wear.

  • Timber or panel components around the mechanism show no signs of damage, cracking or movement.

  • The bed continues to open and close smoothly and as expected.

If you notice loose components, damage, unusual noises, excessive movement, a significant change in opening or closing force, or any other problem, stop using the bed until the cause has been identified and corrected.

If you are unsure about the installation or condition of the mechanism, contact Easy Fold Murphy Bed for assistance before continuing to operate it.
