Our Murphy bed kits are designed for people who want to build their own cabinet without having to source or work out the specialised folding hardware themselves.

We supply the mechanism and instructions. You supply the timber and build the cabinet to suit your room, finish and style.

Here's exactly how it works.

What's Included in the Box?

Each Easy Fold Murphy Bed kit includes the main hardware required to make the bed raise and lower correctly.

Your kit includes:

• Folding mechanism
• Heavy Duty Gas struts matched to the selected kit
• Pivot bars
• Required mechanism hardware
• Building instructions
• Cutting list with the dimensions for the timber panels

These are the specialised components that make the Murphy bed function.

Rather than trying to put together a lifting system from individual hardware-store components, you receive a system designed to work together, along with the measurements and instructions needed to build the surrounding cabinet.

What Do You Need to Supply?

The timber panels are not included with the kit.

You source the panels locally using the cutting list supplied with your instructions. This gives you the freedom to choose the material, colour and finish that best suits your home.

Many timber suppliers and hardware stores can also cut panels to size for you. It's worth checking with your local supplier before purchasing your sheets, as cutting services can vary between stores.

You'll also need normal DIY tools for the build, such as a drill, tape measure, spirit level and other basic assembly tools.

If you'd prefer not to do the timber work yourself, we also maintain a list of suppliers and builders in New Zealand and Australia who may be able to help with cutting or building your cabinet.

Why Doesn't the Kit Include the Timber?

There are a few good reasons.

Shipping large furniture panels is expensive, bulky and much more likely to result in transport damage. By sourcing the timber locally, you're not paying to ship large sheets or a finished cabinet across the country — or internationally.

It also gives you much more freedom with the finished Murphy bed.

You can choose the timber, colour, handles and overall finish to suit your home rather than being limited to a pre-built cabinet in one standard style.

For many DIY customers, that's one of the biggest advantages of buying a hardware kit.

Is There a Metal Bed Frame Included?

Our system is designed as a DIY Murphy bed hardware kit rather than a complete pre-built bed or cabinet.

You build the required timber structure using the measurements provided in the instructions, while the supplied mechanism, gas struts and hardware provide the folding functionality.

This also means you don't receive a large, bulky pre-built unit that needs to be transported into your home.

What Sizes Are Available?

Our Murphy bed range covers a variety of common mattress sizes, including:

Single, Long Single, King Single, Double, Queen and King, with vertical and horizontal configurations available depending on the size.

This makes it possible to choose a kit based on both your mattress size and the shape of your room.

A vertical Murphy bed can work well where you have sufficient ceiling height, while a horizontal configuration can be useful in rooms where wall width is easier to work with than height.

What About the Mattress?

The mattress is also sourced separately.

This gives you the freedom to choose the firmness, material and comfort level you prefer rather than being tied to a mattress supplied with the kit.

Just make sure the mattress dimensions and thickness are compatible with your selected Murphy bed kit.
